Wallpaper ESCAPES

We love to nudge our clients out of their comfort zones somewhere in the house and let a new side of their personality shine. Wallpaper is such a fun and easy way to do this, and the powder room is probably the safest place to make that leap.

Why not?  Your guests will pop in and be delighted by your adventurousness to go bold!

The first and foremost tip about wallpaper?

1- Do not attempt to hang it yourself!  Hire a professional. #NoPaperScrapers. A pro will not only accurately measure your space but will also understand roll widths and amounts. Wallpapers are not all created equal in size, pattern or repeat.

Trust us: Your sanity and your pocketbook will thank you!

2- Don’t forget the ceiling! Sometimes the best choice is to paint the ceiling the same color as the paper’s background, which brings dimension without standing out too much.

Not sure where to start with wallpaper? Here are few of our #FRHomeVibes favorites plus some treasures you may not have heard of . . . yet.

Ellie Cashman: Summer Squall

True show stoppers, Ellie Cashman’s elegant vinyl papers feel straight outta the Dutch Golden Age. From her workshop in the Netherlands, she starts each of her large-scale floral designs with just a hand sketch. She says her desire is to stir “the wonder in us,” and we say mission accomplished.

Timorous Beasties: Thistle Wallpaper

Glasgow-based Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons of Timorous Beasties have maintained near rock-star status in the world of wallpaper for some 30 years. Their stunning designs give a reverential tip of the hat to time-honored motifs made modern with edgy artwork that is often irreverent and always playful.

Phillip Jefferies: Rivets

One of our go-to paper people is Phillip Jefferies. We used this copper-riveted paper in the tiny powder room of a long-time client with wonderful results. While we often choose a simple grasscloth with this kind of project, we found that the faux nailhead detailing here really elevated the design.

Jennifer Shorto: Emeralds

We are slightly obsessed with the works of Jennifer Shorto -- a textile whiz and world traveler. Though created in her studio in London, her papers are born out of a spirit of adventure -- with a dash of whimsical fantasy.

Various: Horse wallpaper

We love the modern country vibe of this British Sandberg: Collette pattern. And though that particular paper is discontinued, you can take inspiration and run with this classic equestrian wallpaper or with a vintage flair horse pattern.

The renovation of this modern barn pairs the sweetest horse-patterned paper with a modern floating sink and our favorite Watermark faucet.
